City of bikes

I got into Amsterdam this morning (hi mom!) and met some friends who are up from Italy for the weekend. I checked into my hotel and then immediately went over to MacBike and rented a bike. Bikes are essential in Amsterdam – they're by far the easiest way to get around, and the whole city is really bike friendly.

Tom and Anna, my friends, had studied in Amsterdam for a semester and know the city pretty well, so Tom immediately directed us to the Saturday morning market. We zipped over on our bikes and made a lunch out of all the delicious little samples that the stands had out – bits of cheese, bread, olives and sausage. Tom was feeling really adventurous and got a shot of grass juice. No, not that kind of grass. There was a natural food stand that took freshly germinated wheat grass and basically juiced it. To be honest it tasted pretty disgusting, but c'est la vie, you won't know if it's good unless you try it!

Steph and Alek just flew up from Paris and have been out exploring and taking pictures already. They stumbled upon an Italian-style tapas bar and highly recommend it.
